The Weekend at a Glance

This past weekend was Labor Day.  Normally that would find our family in the mountains camping, but we have done little of that as a family this year.  We've only camped with other people's children. (proof is here and here.)

Anyway, so back to what we did do this past weekend.

Nathan and I went on a date.

I posted about this the other day, but Amelia and I picked peaches and froze them for later.

On Monday, while Nathan installed a 5th-wheel hitch on his truck (the reason we haven't camped this year), I took the kids to do some shopping.  Jared needed new church shoes and Amelia needed some shorts for Tumbling.

Monday evening, Jared wanted to take us all out for Culver's Concrete Mixers for Family Home Evening.  So after he cleaned up the kitchen (what a sweet boy), we sang a song and had a prayer and off we went.

Here we all are enjoying our treats from Culver's.

The next day it was back to business!

Hunger Games/Steal the Flag - Combined Young Men & Young Women Activity

This past week for our combined mutual activity we did sort of a Hunger Games/Steal the Flag activity.  Our ammunition was tissues filled with 1/4 cup flour and tied off with yarn.  I was the red team's ammunition person, which basically meant I sat there and handed out more ammo to my team when they met the requirements for getting more.

Just for the record, I was not actively playing the game.  I did start to notice, however, that during game play, some of the flour bombs did not completely blow up upon impact.  This meant that perfectly good ammunition was laying dormant on the battlefield.  So, I started slowly walking around picking these up and putting them in my ammunition bag.

All of a sudden I was hit from behind by a member of my own team!  He said I was getting too close to the other team?!  What!  So later, I may have dribbled a little flour onto his head while he was in "jail"

A few minutes after that, when game play had ended, and while I was casually talking with another leader, this occurred!

OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!!

So with the remaining two flour bombs I had, I did this to the culprit!

You know what they say about revenge.

It really was a great time.

Here's a blurry picture of Nathan and I.

Oh yeah, and now that Jared is a deacon, he comes with Nathan and I to mutual.  He had a great time as well.

Peaches

This past Saturday, Amelia and I picked peaches.  Our neighbors have a peach tree that sits right next to the fence dividing our properties.  I purposely allow the branches of this tree to grow over the fence at their leisure so that every year at this time I can enjoy some of those yummy peaches too!

After picking the peaches, Amelia and I took them inside.  We washed them and rinsed them.  Amelia separated the "something yucky on it" peaches from the "keep for later" peaches.

Then I pitted the "something yucky on it" peaches, cut out the bad parts and sliced them up.  Amelia arranged them neatly on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet.  By the time she had them all on there we had 4 layers of peaches on wax paper. Then we threw the cookie sheet into the freezer. Once they were mostly frozen we transferred them to ziploc bags for later use in smoothies, shakes, freezer jam or cobbler.

The "keep for later" peaches went into the crisper drawer of our fridge to be eaten as a snack, in school lunch or for whatever else!

After our hard work, Amelia enjoyed some fresh peaches!
