Here's a couple of quick shots from the past couple weeks

This past Monday, Isaac gave a family home evening lesson on ways that we can strengthen our family.  In his lesson, he asked us all to think of things we can do to strengthen our family.  His lesson included the idea that we could increase our family's bond by spend time together by going to get ice cream.  So for our activity we went and got ice cream cones at +Macey's.

Last weekend, Nathan and I, along with the boys, went to a late BYU game.  Although our team did not win, I had a great time hanging out with my main squeeze.

A couple of weeks ago, while I was in between classes at church, one of the young women, who had been in my class before I was released last year, pulled me aside and said she had something for me. She pulled out a small rock that she had written "you" on and gave it to me.  "You Rock"  I almost cried.  She had made enough for all the young women and the current leaders in the ward, but it made me feel special and loved that she would also give one to me also.  It is currently residing on my dresser where I see it everyday.

Recently, Jared got nipped by a horse.  This is on his chest/side.  That'll teach him to get to close to that horse again!

And lastly, it always cracks me up when I find pictures like this one on my phone.  I love this girl!

Lesson: Why You Should Use a Knife Proportional to the Job at Hand

If you are trying to cut the plastic off of a small package, you should use a knife proportional to the job.

Maybe a small pocket knife, or a Leatherman.  But, NOT A BUCK KNIFE!!

While we were camping this past weekend, this scenario played out for my son, Jared, with less than satisfactory results.

It resulted in a quick trip down the canyon for some stitches.  **WARNING, some pretty graphic pictures follow, so proceed at your own risk!

After all 8 stitches were in.  Technically this was the next day, but I wanted to put it in here.

Once we were done, it was back up the canyon to finish our camping trip.

A Catch Up on Injuries

If you remember, a  week and a half ago, there was an incident in which Clara received a black eye.  Well, it is healing quite nicely.

It's a little blurry, but getting so much better everyday!

Last Monday, Nathan managed to mash his finger while he was working on his work-truck.  He was in a lot of pain and wanting medication.  He never asks for medicine so I knew he hurt.

He spent most of that day hanging out on our bed with his finger on ice.  It was nice to take care of him.

He eventually bought himself a finger splint, because, and I quote, "I got tired of bumping my finger so I bought this... and some other stuff."

His finger is doing a lot better now.  It is still pretty swollen past the last knuckle and his nail is deep purple/black so I am sure it will fall off at some point.

There Was An Incident

This past Friday, I came home to crying from my little one.  I could already see the shiner coming.

She and Amelia had been playing outside.  Amelia was swinging a pole back and forth.... You see where this is going.  Amelia felt terrible and had banished herself to time out on her bed.  

Poor Clara.  This is the morning after the incident.  Most of the swelling had gone down.

And this was two days after.  Already starting to get better.

Isaac's Black Eye & The Pointy-Foreheaded Kid

Last week Isaac came home from school sporting a shiner on his right eye.  I tried to get a picture, but you can't really see it that well.

Isaac, how did you get that black eye?

Some pointy-foreheaded kid hit me in the eye while we were playing football. 

Amelia Tumbles

Recently, Amelia started taking Tumbling lessons.  She is really enjoying them.

One day during tumbling, she got a little too close to another girl and took a foot to the eye.

What a pretty girl she is even with a shiner!

one tough kid

last week isaac came home looking like this. i asked him how it happened.
isaac - we were playing at recess, i fell and someone stepped on my face.
me - did it hurt?
isaac - mom, it just happens all the time. it looks cool huh?

a first time double-bloody nose

so sad!!! amelia fell 3/4 of the way down our stairs on saturday and in the process gave herself a bloody nose on both sides. nate made her some nose plugs and she was all good!

finally a picture from flag football

not the kind i would like to share, but...

in the last 3 minutes of this past saturday's game, jared grabbed his 4th flag. all was fine until i heard that man sitting next to us yell, "coach you've got an injury". I turned my attention to where the injured player was and here comes jared with blood all over his face.

at first i thought he had gotten a bloody nose, but there wasn't any blood below his nose, it was just everywhere else and gushing down his chin. Once we got him over to us we could see that it was his lower lip, but blood was everywhere so we couldn't see how bad it really was. i ran to our truck and grabbed the first aid kit. we used almost all of the wipes in the kit to get his face cleaned up. the bite marks in his lip were pretty substantial, but we weren't sure whether he would need stitches and we really didn't want to go to the ER unnecessarily.

i remembered that our pediatrician's office is open for a few hours on saturdays and so i called and they told us to bring him in and get it looked at. when we got there and they determined that he would need stitches, we were given the option of having them do the stitches there or to go over to the hospital to have the stitches put in there. the doc said that the benefit of going to the hospital to get it done was that they could give him some pain medication to calm him before they gave him the shots. we really didn't want to go over to the hospital so i told jared it was going to hurt a bit and i asked him if he could be really brave.

i was so proud of him!!! he didn't cry while we were at the game. he didn't cry at the doctor's office when the doctor was cleaning it out. best of all, he didn't cry when the doctor's gave him 8 shots in his lip - he didn't even move a muscle even though i could tell he wanted to scream! the doctor said that he was the bravest boy he had ever seen. long story short, he ended up getting four stitches. one in the right hand mark and three in the other.

btw - he got defensive player of the game for all the flags he pulled!
