Amelia turns 11

We had a birthday at our house.  Amelia turned 11.  Our girl wanted a sewing machine for her birthday, so that's what she ended up getting.  She also received sewing accessories and packs to make clothes for her American Girl Doll.

Later, Grandma and Grandpa came over and gave her an intense coloring book and new colored pencils.

First day of school 2016–2017

It was the first day of school around here. Unfortunately, my first day of school picture taking has become quite lackluster.   Jared signed up for early morning seminary and was already to the school by the time Nathan and I got home from CrossFit.  I did manage to snap a picture of Clara and Amelia. Clara started kindergarten and Amelia is now in fifth grade.

Nathan dropped Isaac off at school and as they headed out the door I reminded Nathan to get a picture of him.  When Nathan sent me the picture, you will see below, I asked him why it was so far away. He replied, I almost forgot to take it and as I was driving away I snapped this one.

The picture of Jared, it's from this evening.

Oh well, here's to a great year!

Jared turns 15

My biggest child turned 15 yesterday, and he is finally taller than me.  Not sure how I'm feeling about that.

This morning Nathan took him to the DMV to get his learner's permit.  Crazy stuff!

Dinosaur Land Excursion 2016

Because Nathan and I were running a race in Vernal, we decided to take the kids with us and see some of the sights.  Grandma and Grandpa Carter joined us.  We visited the visitor center and the quarry.

We also went to the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum.  The kids had a great time exploring and learning.

We stayed at the Spring Hill Inn and Suites in Vernal and it was a very nice hotel.  If we ever find ourselves out in Vernal again, we will stay there for sure.

Clara Preschool Graduation

Clara had her Preschool program on May 16th.  She was so excited to sing us all the songs she learned this year.

Dino Half Marathon 2016

I ran the Dino Half Marathon on May 14, 2016, in Vernal Utah this year, for the first time.  I really enjoyed traveling out with my family and spending time with a few of my running friends.

Here we are on the bus getting to the start line.

Dino Half Marathon Finishers!

Nathan ran the 5K and did a great job!  He placed 3rd in his age division and got a PR.  His time was 32:24:7 for a pace of 10:27.

Sha and I ran together the whole time.  I'm so grateful for her friendship and for her presence by my side for this race.  It is so nice to have someone who can push me when I'm feeling weak.

We both PR'd.  I ended up with a chip time of 1:52:41.1 for a pace of 8:36.  I placed 5th in the F 35-39 division.  The course was beautiful, but was much more of a gradual decline than I was anticipating with a lot of rolling hills.

Just before the finish line, Sha started sprinting and I, of course, had to keep up.  My finish line photos are not pretty!!  Next time I sprint, I'll have to remember to sprint pretty!

Isaac turns 13

Isaac turned 13!  We celebrated the day before since his birthday was a Sunday this year and it was also Mother's Day.

We took the boys and Pa and went to see Captain America: Civil War and then we went and got him a balance board.

He got the hang of it really quickly.

Grandma and Grandpa Carter got him a book he had been wanting.

Nathan had to try it out as well.

Of course we had cake and ice cream.

Love this kid!

Sunday Dinner with Pa

The first Sunday of every month, we got to my Father-in-law's house for dinner.

My father-in-law Richard (Rick to everyone else), is a terrific guy.  I know this because of big things, but also many little things he does.  Among other things, one of the biggest ways he has helped Nathan and I is by helping to watch our kids since Jared was a baby.  Not many grandpa's sign up for that.

Also, when he cooks chicken for dinner, he always cooks me boneless, skinless chicken breasts because he knows I hate bone-in chicken.  He knows the way to my heart is directly through my belly!!
